John "Monty" Montgomery
Monty is a first year student pursuing an MA in Latin American and Caribbean studies at Indiana University. He is a 2018 graduate of Franklin College with a BA in Global Studies and minors in History and Spanish. During his undergraduate work Monty spent a semester at La Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso in Valparaíso, Chile. While abroad he was an active participant in the Chilean student movement, organizing with a local cadre on issues of education, pensions, and healthcare. In his last semester at Franklin, he served as an academic mentor for a history class focusing on Latin American Food and Sport. Monty hopes to use his time at CLACS to explore the connections between radical politics and the “Barras Bravas” of the Southern Cone. In his free time he enjoys cooking, hiking, and supporting his favorite soccer club: CD Palestino.
