Daniel (Ph.D., University of Chicago 2005) is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Indiana University, Bloomington. He is a linguistic anthropologist and has conducted extensive field research in Mexico on Mixe-Zoquean languages and the communities where they are spoken. His research and teaching touch on several inter-related themes: language politics and linguistic ideologies, verbal art and poetics, and how changing patterns of language use both reflect and help to shape larger social changes.
