Indiana University’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and Portuguese Program are pleased to announce a workshop for Indiana teachers and administrators interested in exploring the possibility of offering Portuguese in their schools.
The workshop will feature a presentation from Kathleen Schmaltz, Associate Director of the federally-funded Portuguese Flagship program at the University of Georgia, which has successfully developed Portuguese programs in several Georgia public schools. It will also include in-depth discussions with a representative from the Indiana Department of Education, who will explain the necessary steps to take to start a new language program in Indiana, particularly surrounding Indiana Academic Standards and teacher certification.
Cost or funding: The workshop is free and open to the public. Stipends or travel reimbursements of $250 are available for 8-10 teachers and administrators.
To register for the workshop and request one of the stipends/reimbursements, please send an email containing your name, affiliation, and a one-paragraph explanation of your interest in the workshop to firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday, March 22.
