Master of Arts (M.A.)

The Master of Arts degree program often serves as a foundation for those wanting to earn a doctorate, or as preparation for applied work in a range of professional fields, including government, private business, and the non-profit sector. Advanced work in at least two disciplines and one interdisciplinary seminar give depth and breadth to students' academic careers. On consultation with the director, students may focus on interdisciplinary themes such as economic development, policy, or environmental studies.

Dual-Degree Programs

Opportunities exist for students to complete a Dual-Degree Program by combining a Master of Arts in Latin American and Caribbean Studies with other graduate programs, which significantly reduce credit hour requirements allowing program completion in three years or less. Combinations of this type exist with the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), the Master of Library Science (M.L.S.), the Master of Information Science (M.I.S.), the Master of Public Affairs (M.P.A.), the Master of Public Health (M.P.H.), and the Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.). Interested students must begin by applying to both units' Master's programs.
