I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I studied in a number of public and private schools and graduated from the University of Puerto Rico High School. I did my BA in drama/theatre in the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras. After two years working as a teacher in local schools, I moved to Amherst to do graduate studies. I worked in Holyoke public schools while completing my doctorate degree in reading and writing at the University of Massachusetts. Once I returned to Puerto Rico I joined the faculty at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus and since 1996, I have been a faculty member at the UPR Bayamón campus. In addition to my work in academia, I play tennis and I have published a few children’s books.
librosparaninosyninas.blogspot.com is a blog I lead with contributions from my children’s literature course students.
