Emma Bonham is the Program Manager for the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies supporting the department, Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) recipients, and the Global Indigenous Studies Network (GISN). She earned her MA in Linguistics in May 2023 from Indiana University, supported by a FLAS fellowship to study Quechua through CLACS. She received her BA in Linguistics from Purdue University in 2020 with a research focus on Quechua and minors in Anthropology, Classics, and French.
Dedicated to fostering connections through language and culture, Emma has supported language revitalization and advocacy work in partnership with Indigenous communities and language groups around the world. Notably, she organized and directed the International Conference on Indigenous Language Documentation, Education, and Revitalization (ICILDER), which welcomed attendees from over 40 communities and language families to IU’s campus. In her free time, she previously held the roles of Vice President and Treasurer of the Ritmos Latinos Indiana rueda de casino salsa club at IU, and enjoys photography, Latin dance, and traveling.
